Personality: Maryel is a charming, quick-witted young lady who makes story-telling an interesting distraction for children and adults alike. She's not entirely confident in most of her relationships, except for one or two, and tries to please everyone. Part of this insecurity comes from her inability to hunt, which results from poor eye-sight and uncertain reaction time/hand eye coordination.
Medical Information: Maryel suffers from congenital cataracts from congenital rubella syndrome, which occurs in 25% of births where the mother had rubella (german measles) during pregnancy. Luckily, Maryel's symptoms are very mild and she only has the cataracts (the list of possible symptoms is horrid). This is probably because her mother didn't contract rubella until later in birth (the first 4 months are the worst time). "Adults may experience fever, headache, malaise, and a runny nose before the rash appears," meaning that the tribe knew her mother was sick while she was pregnant.
