Dochira Moon: Gemma hopped nimbly forwards grinning as she reached up to try and grab the floating seeds of some flower. Looking down by her hooves her eyes lit up in delight.
"Oh! I found some more herbs! Haha, Gem girl, you're good" she giggled and leaned down carefully bending her fore legs around the plants. She deftly picked some leaves off the plant and nodded satisfied. A flash of colourful berries caught her eye and she leapt for them lightly with a jingle of her hooves.
KetlinNarris: Gem was still a ways away from the large horde of berry bushes when the sound of horses hooves, accompanied by a straight-backed man on a horse, stepped out in front of them. He glared hostilly at her, his light grey eyes holding a bitter, forboding light.
Dochira Moon: In mid-leap Gemma twisted and wrenched her body back clutching the herbs to her small satchel. Giving herself a moment to stand up straight and gain her composture she fought down a wince at his utter hostility. With as much warmth as she could gather she smiled at him. "Hallo! My, isn't it a fine day?"
KetlinNarris: "You're a long way from home," he replied in a deep, flat voice.
Dochira Moon: Nodding a little she carefully held up the catnip and woodherth she carried. "Yep, but we don't get such great herbs... not to mention it's much prettier in the forest. It's far too nice a day to just spend doing every day things."
KetlinNarris: His bay eyed her curiously and took a step sideways. The man stopped the movement abruptly with a soft tightening on the reins, but the horse had no other ornament, nor standard equipment. Even the small space where the simple harness crossed it's maine went unshaven, but the horse looked groomed and they were both clean. The man set his mouth into a rigid frown and curtly added, "You must be days from your home. Go gather somewhere else."
Setting her mouth in a responding stubbornness she shook her head
"The journey back is mine, and I want to gather here, much more is available." She shifted her weight a little lifting her right fore-hoof lightly then putting it down again. "Why would you care so much about my location and gathering anyway?" Looking down from the man to the bay her mouth curved up in a smile again as she looked it over carefully.
KetlinNarris: The male horse swished its tale in barely contained confusion and curiousity. "No one else comes here," he snapped, beginning to sound defensive. Certainly, no women lived with him, or else his grey clothes, if not more festive, would be more carefully sown and free of stain. At the very least, he might have more manners.
Dochira Moon: Fastening the satchel back to her belt Gemma looked up at him defiantly
"You know, you're aweful rude, that's probably why they don't come here. Doesn't bother me much though, I have brothers." Shrugging a little she glanced around him at the berry bush. "Say, do you know what kind of berry that is?" She grinned at the bay then rubbed her forehead gently around the horn as her hooves made bell on glass sounds with her movement.
KetlinNarris: He moved his horse a few steps forward, and it danced a bit inside his loose reign, so that it stood as more of a profile to Gemma. The stranger seemed to take a moment to look over his horse to make sure it was still his horse and hadnt magically changed into anything else. A basket half-ful of berries was tied on the saddle behind him, and when he turned his attention back to her, he grinned enough to show his teeth, but the smile didn't touch his eyes. "Purple. And I don't intend to send a traveller off with the impression that she can come back whenever the hell she pleases, and bring her whole damn village with her," he spat.
Dochira Moon: Dancing back around the spit she grinned at him
"Too bad, I can come back whenever I want to. If I had a village I'de bring them all here... I do know a good village of humans though" moving forwards over the spit she added and shruging a little Gemma's eyes darkened with spite then immediately brightened again as she laughed a little "Then again, I'm not so horrible. That and I respect nature too much. Hm... would you like some catnip? It's really good at cheering a body up, and I have plenty to share."
Dochira Moon: (ehehe, quick fix: moving forwards over the spit she shrugged a little and Gemma's eyes... I deleted a bit in there, it didn't flow correctly after deletion >.o)
KetlinNarris: He straightened more in his saddle, returning to a calm glower and a flat, dull voice. "Fool girl."
KetlinNarris: (not that kind of spat lol)
KetlinNarris: (its a type of agressive voice pattern as well)
Dochira Moon: (Haha, lol my misconception, please excuse)
KetlinNarris: (of course ^_^)
Dochira Moon: Nodding a little she swished her tail a little
"Just thought it would be nice to offer... I don't have that many other herbs, but I did find a lovely stone. Oh, would you like a sugar cube? I have some to spare." Glancing down at the bay she added "Him as well?"
KetlinNarris: "What stone? Where?" he demanded.
Dochira Moon: Raising her eyebrow she opened her satchel and inserted her slender hand hming as she searched for it.
"Aha, got it, this one." She pulled a small glassy-lilac coloured stone out and held it up admiring how it sparkled in the light that filtered through the trees. "Pretty isn't it? The way it catches the light too."
KetlinNarris: "Where did you get it?" he asked more softly.
Dochira Moon: Tilting her head a little Gemma thought carefully
"Well I picked it up from the base of a tree by some scarlet flowers... back thataway" She twisted and pointed behind her a bit. Suddenly curious she danced around a little. "Why?"
KetlinNarris: He gave her a flat pan look. "No reason. Why would I care?"
Dochira Moon: Grinning she replied
"You tell me, you're the one with all the questions on it"
KetlinNarris: He pulled out a hunting knife, letting it make a sharp sound of scraping metals against its case, and held it up in the air. "I don't believe you're here to gather berries. You ought to have left already."
Dochira Moon: Glancing at the knife she shook her head a little,
"How can someone who looks after his friend so well, be so mean? Hm, anyway, no I'm not here to gather berries, I'm here to get herbs and foods... along with random pretty things I pick up too." shrugging a little she continued bluffing confidence "Besides, you're blocking the way to the berries, and I can't exactly go back without when they are so close and so many. Their seeds are practically calling to be spread." She considered getting a sugar cube to calm her nerves, but decided against it. not trusting her composure.
KetlinNarris: He paused. He didn't like her, but it didnt feel right to attack her. "You shouldnt be out this far at all, if you knew what was good for you." He let his horse dance sideways a bit, getting a wild look in his cold grey eyes. "You would really pick those berries, wouldnt you? Even though they arent touched, and you don't know anything about them? Take my basket if you want, but leave this place and me to it."
Dochira Moon: Smiling she shrugged "I wouldn't eat them, I would gather them. I wouldn't feel right taking your food from you, you might need it during the cold, our clan-family does, that's why they send out all the daughters to get food." Narrowing her eyes a little in thought she rubbed her forehead around her horn again and looked down at her hooves. Gemma paused feeling all sorts of pity for the man as she backed a little, then glanced at the hand with the stone clenched in it. Digging in her pouch a little she put a covered cube in her hand next to the stone and offered them to him. "Here, have these. I have a forgiving clan-family, and I can gather more herbs and berries on the way home." (YAY! ^^)
KetlinNarris: He sighed impatiently and sheathed his knife. "Keep them, they're yours. If you won't take my berries." The last was added as a grumble. The one thing he'd offered her had been refused.
Dochira Moon: Smiling she thought of something
"It could be like a trade, that way you have compensation for the food I took. See? That way I don't have to feel bad... so long as I'm not taking something you need... I wouldn't, would I?" Creasing her forehead a little concerned she looked straight at him.
KetlinNarris: "You haven't taken anything I need."
Dochira Moon: "Oh... okay." Looking down at her hooves again she nodded and swished her tail a little. She slipped the stone back into her pouch avoiding looking at him and turned paralleled to him, but facing the opposite direction. Her voice laced with irony she mumbled "May the water that you find in the desert not shine at you in the dark." Tossing her head she leapt off at a gallop through the trees and popped the sugar cube into her mouth as she went to calm her nerves.
KetlinNarris: His bay took off after her, but he remained silent.
KetlinNarris: (if either of them were injured they'd have to stay together. *evil laughter* thats my favorite thing to do to a character)
Dochira Moon: (O.o; the horse and man or Gemma and man?)
KetlinNarris: (Gemma or Orin)
Dochira Moon: (Ah, mkay. lol... well, Gemma could turn around and look back at hearing the hoofbeats then hit a tree I suppose o.O problem is that being part unicorn and part elf she's unbelievably nimble -.-; I think I'll have to do something that's fully out of character for her then e.e)
KetlinNarris: (hahha usually its more along the lines of *ahem* bad guys or wildlife. Dont worry about it for now)
Dochira Moon: After galloping for a little Gemma narrowed her eyes hearing the hoofbeats still behind her. Dancing over to the side she grinned at a passing racoon and whispered a soft greeting as she waited for the bay to catch up
KetlinNarris: They did. "Just don't come any closer next time," he said simply, then added more roughly, "Are you even listening to me? I don't care where you go jsut don't come that close again."
Dochira Moon: Smiling at another animal scuttling up the tree she turned in delight and reached up to hold her hand closer to it, but far enough away so it wouldn't bite. She laughed as another of its type began to scuttle around the tree trunk too.
"Hey... what kind of animal is this? I've not seen it before..."
KetlinNarris: He seemed to struggle for a moment. The animal was as small as a mouse with thick legs and body for its size, and very large ears. "They're-- they're common."
Dochira Moon: "Really? I would think it would be nocturnal... I mean look at those beautiful ears..." She grinned with glee as it scuttled out of visibility then let her gaze rest back on him again. "Huh? Sorry... what did ya say? I was listening..." Quickly dodging around him she knelt down by a brightly coloured flower and smiled as smaller insects spread pollen from it "wow... so busy, so beautiful..."
KetlinNarris: He held his jaw rigidly shut and made a sound of resentment in his throat. He didn't like her being there at all. There shouldn't exist someone-- something-- who could be so part of the forest and still resmble the people he had known in his youth. Besides, she was making him uncomfortable: talking took effort. He watched her sullenly. His bay knickered, and it made him seem more sullen.
Dochira Moon: Snapping out of her entrancement with the flower at the knicker she came back around and smiled at him,
"Oh yes! I forgot to properly introduce myself, how rude of me. I'm Gemma... do you have any Gem Flowers around here? That's what I was named after... I can't remember the whole story, I was born and that was my chosen flower or something... at least I think. What are you and your friends names?"
KetlinNarris: He made his bay back up when she came closer, a sharp look of fright in his eyes that hid back behind his sulleness once his horse took a step and she didn't seem to come any closer. "Orin," he answered slowly, careful to articulate. He hadn't said the name in so long, and when he glanced at the bay, he could only frown. His bay had a name, but it was little more than a thought in Olin's head, and the sound he used to call the horse resembled horse-language more than English.
KetlinNarris: "Is my name," he added in seeming embarrasment.
Dochira Moon: Nodding Gemma noted the fright without showing any outward sign of seeing it "Okay, Olin, nice to meet you." Smiling she looked up through the tree branches and frowned a little "Oh... look it's getting dark." She creased her brows together a little concerned, but not overly so.
KetlinNarris: "How far away do you live?"
Dochira Moon: Hming a little she looked down at her fingers then glanced out at the forest
"I live about...six days hard canter from here... but at my usual pace, probably about nine days."
KetlinNarris: "I suppose you're going to camp here tonight?" he asked, "It's not too close."
Dochira Moon: Gemma considered then glanced at the tree and nodded
"Yeah, I should probably camp out tonight. I strayed a little far I think, but they won't worry."
KetlinNarris: "Ok," he backed up a bit more, wanting to leave for his own dwellings.
Dochira Moon: Smiling Gemma twisted around to the bags on her back then turned back,
"Do you have a place to stay as well? If you don't you can camp with me, I just need to find somewhere where the trees and animals agree to the intrusion"
Dochira Moon: (muahaha evil keeping him in contact with her)
KetlinNarris: "Right here's fine. I'm fine," he said quickly, "I don't live far......goodbye....."
KetlinNarris: (heeheh yes but He'll come back)
Dochira Moon: Shrugging she grinned and waved
"Okay, well, goodbye. Well to meet Orin." Intently she twisted around again and pulled out some blankets and supplies for herself.
KetlinNarris: He galloped away rather hurriedly, although his stallion looked regretful for it. Near dawn, however, he was galloping back for an entirely different reason, pushing his bay as fast as it would go.
Yawning a little sleepily and folding her blanket up Gemma looked towards the direction of the bay noise startled. Nervously she danced a little and stowed away the rest of her things.
As soon as he saw her he shouted a warning, "Empty!" then, realizing that it didnt make much sense in English, he struggled to rephrase his warning, "Souless! Souless are coming. Run you fool girl!"
Dochira Moon: Blinking she creased her brows and opened her mouth to make a protest then clamped her mouth closed on it and checked the straps were in place quickly before starting to gallop so she would not be left behind as Orin passed
"Souless? Things without souls? What?"
KetlinNarris: He shook his head at her as he caught up, but before he could speak he was knocked out of his saddle by a quick, dark shape the size of a dog and his bay rocketed ahead with a scream, blocking her veiw as the two rolled into the trees.
