~~~
Act One, Scene One
Finalran is leaning against Kayl's door, holding it shut and blocking her exit.  She is standing back from him, facing him and taking a step back as he speaks.
Finalran: There's no point in avoiding it.  I can tell you're upset-- just tell me why and get it over with.
He comes closer; she continues to avoid him until he grabs her wrist with a snarl and forces her to sit down on her bed.
Finalran: Just tell me! I'm not leaving 'till you do!
Kayl: Leave me alone!  I told you, nothing's the matter
Finalran: You're lying.
Kayl: Go away!  I don't have to tell you anything!... there's nothing I owe you
Denji knocks on her door and asks politely
Denji: Is everything alright?
Finalran lets go of Kayl and opens the door.
Finalran: Everything's fine.  I was just leaving.
Finalran walks to his room, where he begins stacking furniture in order to reach the ceiling.  He lifts a tile there and places out of sight a hand gun and a small tin of things.  He debates silently over a knife that he also has, and decides to keep in in his belt, then hurriedly puts everything back and lays on his bed.  In Kayl's room, Denji approaches her and asks
Denji: Was he bothering you?
Kayl:  Yes, yes he was...I--
Denji: He didn't hurt you, did he?
Kayl: I-I thought he was going to...
Denji notices her holding her wrist where Finalran grabbed her, and as his eyes light on it she breaks down into tears
Kayl: He grabbed me...  I didn't know what he wanted: I'm glad you came.
Denji: I'll inform the owner, and we'll take care of it.  You can come with me if you like.
Kayl: Thankyou, but I'd rather stay here and rest.
She wipes her hands across her face, but she looks as if she is about to cry again.  Denji walks toward the door
Denji:  If you're sure you'll feel safe.
Kayl: I...I don't think he meant to...
Denji: Meant to or not, it needs to be dealt with.  You should lock the door while you're resting, so that you're safe.  Only the owner and I have a key.
Kayl: Thank you...
Denji: Sleep well, Miss.
~~~
Act One, Scene Two
Denji walks up to Omega's room and lets himself in.

Denji: Sir, there's been a disturbance.  One of our guests has hurt another.
Omega: Tell me who, and spare me any unnecessary details.
Denji: Finalran and Kayl.  It seems he let himself into her room and frightened her terribly.
Omega: Those are both new tenants.  Where are they now?
Denji: Kayl is in her room.

Omega pulls out two folders, each labled after their respective tenants, and begins spreading their contents on his desk.

Omega: Find Finalran.  Check his room first, and lock him in there while I make a few calls. Then do whatever you can to comfort Kayl and make sure she's not injured badly.
Denji: I believe she wishes to be left alone, sir.  She wanted to rest.
Omega:  Alright.  Take care of Finalran quickly.  Don't give him any choice in the matter.  If we have to call the police-- if she's hurt badly-- I want him trapped.
Denji: Yes, Sir.

Denji exits the room and walks downstairs, where he knocks on Finalran's door.  Finalran tucks the knife in his belt underneath his pillow, then leaps up and answers the door.

Finalran: Is there a problem?

Denji lets himself in and closes the door behind him, ignoring the question.

Denji: I'm asking you to stay in your room for the time being.
Finalran: Uh-- Ok, sure... anything else?
Denji: Not right now...  I'll be locking you in, if that's alright.

Finalran sits on his bed and nods obediantly.  He seems very nervous, so Denji leaves without another word, locking the door behind him from the outside.  Finalran starts pacing the room angrily/nervously.  Denji sits behind his desk in the main lobby, where he soon admits into the building Torell.

Torell: I was called to see one of your tenants.  Finalran, I believe his name is?  Apparently he was in a fight...
Denji:  The first door on your right.

Denji hands Torell keys.  Torell walks to Finalran's room, knocks softly, then lets himself in.  Finalran is sitting on his bed.

Finalran:  Who are you?
Torell: Sorry to let myself in.  You're Finalran, aren't you?  I got a call today, telling me that you were in a fight and might need my services.  You see, I'm a doctor, and while I hate to bother you, either you let me look you over or you're turned out of here for sure.
Finalran: I suppose you want me to start by telling you how I feel, or what exactly happened.
Torell: That would be super of you.

Torell stands in front of Finalran and takes his pulse and other such things.  Finalran seems extremely nervous, and anxious to explain himself to someone with whom his immediate fate resides.

Finalran:  I know I frightened her, but I didn't mean to.  I just wanted to talk to her.  She's obviously upset about something, and I want to know what is all.
Torell:  What if it's you that's upseting her?
Finalran:  Well, I'd want to know that too, so I could stop...
Torell: When's the last time you slept?
Finalran: Slept?  I don't know.  What has that got to do with it?
Torell:  You seem jumpy.  Is that because I'm here?
Finalran: Yes, well... a little.  I was already edgy.
Torell: Any idea why?
Finalran:  I came to this place to rest.  I guess it ain't working.
Torell: What if I were to give you something for it, would that be alright?
Finalran: ... I guess.

Torell smiles kindly, lays Finalran out on his bed, then injects him with something that puts Finalran to sleep.

~~~
Act Two, Scene One
Torell leaves Finalran's room and knocks on Kayl's door.  She jumps at the noise, but lets him in.
Torell: Sorry to disturb you, Miss, but do you know where I can find Omega?
Kayl: You mean... the owner?
Torell: Yes Ma'am.
Kayl: Sure, I'll show you where his office is... who are you?
Torell: I'm a doctor.
Kayl: You came to check on one of the tenants?
She leads him to Omega's office as they talk. As they pass Finalran's room, she asks
Kayl: You came to check on him, didn't you?
Torell: Why, yes I did Miss.
Kayl: Is he... going to be kicked out?  I heard he was in a fight.
Torell: You'll have to ask Omega, I'm afraid-- after I talk to him.  I hope he can stay here, though.  He seems like such a nice boy.  He's just stretched tighter than a rubber band.  Why, do you know him?
Kayl:  A little... he just moved in.  Well, here's the room.
Torell: Thankyou very much.
Kayl nods, backs away a few steps, then leaves down the stairs to her room.  Torell enters Omega's office.
Torell: I've seen to him, as you asked.  Is there anything more you can tell me about him?
Omega hands him Finalran's file; Torell glances through it.
Omega: So, what do you think?  Should I keep him?  Or is he too dangerous.
Torell:  It's hard to tell how dangerous he is, but I think if he could calm down abit-- perhaps if he also saw a doctor-- he wouldn't be any more dangerous than the others you take in.  You've got to rely on your impression of him, I'm afraid: but I would keep him.
Omega: Where is he now?
Torell: Sleeping in his room.  Do you want me to see to the girl, to?
Omega: I would appreciate it if you would talk to her.  I'm not sure how she's handled it.  I haven't known her long either, and I don't have quite the same training you have.
Torell:  What should I tell her about Finalran?
Omega: ... tell her she'll be safe here, and that I'll make my desicion by morning.
Torell: Can I see her file?
Omega hands him her file.
Torell: I just spoke to this girl.  She showed me up here...
Omega: Then you'll have no trouble finding her.
Torell: Of course... I'll talk to her, then search his room for anything we should know about.
Omega:  If you want, but then go home.  I'll call you if I need you again.
Torell: If I find anything, I'll show your secretary.  Goodnight.
Omega:  Goodnight, doctor.  And thankyou.
Torell leaves his office and walks to Kayl's office, where he lets himself in.
Torell: Miss?  I just wanted to check on you before I go.
Kayl: ...Thankyou.  I'm fine...
Torell: Just so you know, Omega said he'll decide about Finalran in the morning.  Are you sure you're ok?
Kayl:  Yes, thankyou.
Torell:  Don't worry, you'll be safe here.  I'm sorry Finalran bothered you earlier.
Kayl:  I'm sure he didn't mean to...
Torell: If you're sure you don't need anything, I'll let you get to your sleep.
Kayl:  I'm sure.
Torell:  Well, goodnight.  And if you want to speak to me, ask Omega and he'll get a hold of me.
Kayl: Thankyou.  Goodnight.
Torell:  Goodnight.
Torell closes her door softly, then lets himself into Finalran's room, where he slowly searches through everything, doing his best to leave the room as he found it.  He does not find the hiding place in the roof, and so the only thing of interest is Finalran's knife, which he takes note of but leaves where it was.  He leaves the building.  In her room, Kayl sits on her bed and pulls out a revolver hand gun.  She watches the door for a while, then opens the chamber to see if it is loaded.  It isn't, so she loads one bullet in, then spins the chamber.  Time passes.
~~~
Act Two, Scene Two.
Focus is on the lobby, where Denji sits behind his desk.  Kayl spins the revolver again (in her room), and points it at herself, pulling the trigger: 'outside,' a gun-shot is heard and a "help, help!" but Kayl's gun does not go off, and she puts it underneath her pillow.  Denji pulls out a gun and checks outside, just in time to see Meth run away from Mathew, whom she has apparently mugged.

Denji: Sir, are you alright?
Mathew: I'm ok, she shot at me, but she missed.  Got away with my stuff, though, the theif!
Denji: You should call the cops.
Mathew:  You're right.  Can I use your phone?
Denji: Absolutely.  Come in and wait in the lobby.

They come inside, and Denji hands Mathew the phone off his desk.  Omega comes downstairs as Mathew is speaking on the phone.

Mathew:  Yes, this is Mathew Art and I'd like to report a robbery.  No one's hurt but she took my watch and my wallet.  Yes, she was wearing dark clothes-- she had bleached-blonde hair and heavy boots.  I'd guess about 5'6."  I'm at 1518 Jones Street.  Thankyou.
Omega:  I heard a gun shot, is everything ok?
Denji: There was a robbery right outside.
Mathew: The police are coming in a few minutes.
Omega:  Do you have everything under control?
Denji:  Yes, Sir.
Omega:  Alright.  Call me when the police get here.
Denji: Yes, Sir.

Omega walks back to his office, Denji sits behind his desk, and Mathew sits down as well.  A few moments pass quietly out in the lobby, while in his room Finalran wakes up and Kayl in her room lays motionless on her bed, staring at the ceiling.

Mathew: Uh, where's the bathroom?
Denji: Down that hall to your left.
Mathew: Thankyou.

Mathew walks to Kayl's room, where he reaches for the door handle.  Finalran walks out of his room, Mathew hides in another room, and Finalran knocks on Kayl's door.

Kayl: Come in.

Finalran walks in and closes the door behind him.  Kayl sits up in her bed.

Finalran: Look, I'm sorry if I was pushy, earlier.
Kayl: That's ok...
Finalran: No, no it's not.  It was wrong of me to act like that.
Kayl: No, really, it's ok.
Finalran: Don't let people push you around like that.  If I do it again, just, I don't know, slap me or something.  I don't know what was wrong with me.  I'm really sorry.
Kayl: ... Ok.

Finalran steps closer; as he moves closer she grows more tense and backs up as much as she can.

Finalran: Are you alright?  You look--

He almost laughs at himself, realizing that this was, after all, where the play started.  Standing next to her bed, he leans against the wall for support.

Finalran:  Sorry, I'll leave you alone.
Kayl: Do you... need to sit down?
Finalran: Yes, thankyou.

She makes room for him on her bed by standing up, and he sits down.

Kayl:  You keep saying I don't look well: you're the one who can't stand up.
Finalran:  Well, see, this doctor came and--
Kayl:  He sedated you, I know.
Finalran: I guess it hasn't worn off yet.  And anyway, you just look so sad.
Kayl: I'm fine.
Finalran:  Ok, I believe you.  Where're you from?
Kayl: Are you sure you're ok?
Finalran: Yeah, I just needed to catch my breath.
Kayl:  Oh... where are you from?
Finalran:  Not far from here, actually.  I used to walk by this place on my way to school.
Kayl:  Really?  But that must have been years ago.
Finalran:  Yeah, it was.  I work as a cop now, or, well I did.  I just needed a break.
Kayl:  Is that why you have a gun?
Finalran:  You saw that?  Well, yes and no.  You need one for protection around here.  Anywhere, really.
Kayl:  Yeah, I have one too... I...

Mathew walks into the room with a gun, shutting it behind him with a slam and pointing the gun straight at Finalran as he walks towards Kayl.  He soon moves the gun to Kayl.

Mathew:  You stay out of this.
Kayl:  I thought I told you to leave me alone.
Mathew:  What's wrong with you?  You won't even talk to me anymore.  You won't return my calls.  You think you can get rid of me that easily?
Kayl:  You don't understand, Mathew-- I hardly know you, I don't want to know you.
Mathew:  Sit down before I blow your head off!  You and I are going to come to an understanding, here and now!  We're going to get to know each other real well.

In the lobby, the police arrive in response to the earlier call.  Denji presses a button on his desk that lights up in Omega's room, and he begins putting papers away and then heading downstairs.

Sam:  Sir, where's the victim?
Denji:  He left for the bathroom a minute ago, but he's been gone a long time.
Sam:  Let's check it out.  Where's this bathroom.
Denji:  Down here, Sir.

Denji leads Sam down the hallway, and they hear the commotion.  Finalran had found the gun underneath her pillow and points it at Mathew, pulling the trigger.  But the revolver was spun to an empty chamber, and all it does is admit a loud click, which catches the immediate attention and wrath of Mathew.  Sam opens the door, distracting Mathew just as he is swinging the gun around in Finalran's direction: it's all Finalran needs to jump him and stab him with the knife in his belt.  The gun goes off, but into the air.

Sam:  Stop!  You're under arrest!

Sam grabs Mathew's gun from behind and struggles to put cuffs on him.  Once he has suceeded, Finalran pulls away to stand next to Kayl.

Mathew:  Me?!  Arrest him!  Look at me, I'm bleeding!
Finalran:  To death, I hope.
Denji:  I'll call an ambulance.
Finalran:  Kayl, are you ok?

Omega arrives in the lobby.

Omega:  What's going on?
Denji:  A lot, sir, but it's under control now.
Omega:  Is anyone hurt?
Kayl:  Yes, I... you saw he didn't touch me.
Denji:  Only the bad guy, I think.
Sam:  I'll have to take you two into questioning.  Just to straighten things out...
Finalran:  Yeah... we know.
Omega:  Well, that's good, I guess.

Denji picks up the phone to call the ambulance  as Mathew is laid out flat in Kayl's room.
