Homosexuality Since Stonewall in 1969, lesbians, gays, and bisexual activists have been clamoring for acceptance. Therapists have adopted the idea that homosexuality is a fixed personality trait. These assumptions are especially disputed by those who have come out of the gay lifestyle, and not all psychologists agree. Scientists and others have added that it could be a fixed genetic trait. Studies in epigenetics are challenging this idea too. This includes identical twin studies, which both confirm and deny homosexuality as a genetic trait (there are identical twins in which both are gay or both are straight, and there are other identical twins in which one is gay and one is straight).
