The Persecuted Church
Fifth Seal: The Cry of the Martyrs
And when He broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, wilt Thou refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, should be completed also. Revelation 6:9-10
In the August 1997 edition of Reader's digest, there was an article called the "Global War on Christians"
The article quoted Michael Horowitz, a Jewish lawyer, as one of the voices sited as speaking out on behalf of the persecuted Christians:
"I didn't understand how the American Christian community, so vociferous, so committed to ending the suffering of Jews in the Soviet Union, could have been so mute, so tongue-tied, on behalf of their own."
The article states at that point that he discovered how some are very uninformed.
Some brief highlights of the article:
"3/4's of all Christians live outside the West. It may be the largest Third World religion" Nigeria, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan,China, N. Korea, Vietnam, and Indonesia are cited as the most vehement countries in the world for violating human rights of Christians in unspeakable ways. Including rapes and torture, separating children from parents, slavery and imprisonment.
In Sudan's Nuba mountains, half a million Nuba Christians (virtually all men) have been killed in the last decade. Muslim persecution is severe--anyone not Islam is denied food, clothing and shelter. Thousands of women and children are sold into slavery to Muslim masters. China has also made it a policy to irradicate Christianity, citing what happened in other Communist countries as a result of Christianity (the fact that they fell), hunting down all who secretly meet at 3 a.m. to fellowship in housechurches. The U.S. gov't is highly influenced by the powerful Chinese lobby in spite of several Congressional proclamations
